Max Biaggi interview at EICMA - 2012 Season

The presence of the SBK Paddock Show at EICMA was a great opportunity for the public to get up close with many of the top WSB riders. One of the biggest draws was clearly the 2010 world champion, Max Biaggi. The ‘Roman Emperor' arrived on Saturday afternoon for the ritual photograph and autograph sessions, after which WorldSBK.com interviewed him backstage about the past year and the prospects for the 2012 season.

You're here at EICMA once again, this time at the World Superbike stand. What do you think of the show?

"EICMA is the biggest and best bike show in Europe. Every year there are always a lot of new bikes and it's just great to be here. I'm sure this negative period for the bike market will come to an end and things will start to improve again in the motorcycle industry."

The 2011 season wasn't particularly easy. You were injured at the Nürburgring, then you came back at Portimão with two strong races despite only starting in 17th slot. Are you glad you can get back on the bike again at the end of the month at the Algarve circuit?

"I finished third overall, with a bit of bad luck and after missing three rounds. For sure I wanted to do better but luck wasn't in my zodiac sign this year. But I'm back in shape, that's the important thing, I don't need to recover any more because I'm already at 100%. Now I can start to work on myself and see where I can improve, and hope that the bike will make further progress so I can get a good start next year in Australia. I aim to get the number 1 plate back again but we'll have to see what the other riders think about that. We'll only have an idea of the 2012 season once the first race gets underway."

Let's move on to Eugene Laverty. Another rider from over the Channel, as in the last two seasons but someone who scored some good results in his first season. Do you think that competition within the same team can help in giving you further motivation?

"My team is already tried and tested and Biaggi and his staff are all ready to go. Laverty will have a team all for himself who will as a result work for him alone. The only positive thing I can see is that it will be a good stimulus for me should I find myself in difficulty, in that case it'll motivate me even more to try and stay ahead."

Jorge Lorenzo News: Recovery progressing well on finger injury

This week the Spanish rider started rehabilitation for the finger injury he sustained at Phillip Island just over three weeks ago, and hopes to be able to return to gym work on Monday.

Having missed the last two rounds of the season and this week’s Valencia Test after injuring a finger on his left hand on a warm-up session crash at the Australian GP on October 16th, Jorge Lorenzo is almost ready to return to full physical activity.

The Yamaha Factory Racing rider underwent surgery on the finger immediately after the injury, and this week began his rehabilitation. On Monday he expects to be able to start working in the gym, as the progress of his recovery takes another step forward.

Lorenzo will take part in the All Stars GP Karting Indoor event on December 18th in Barcelona, alongside F1, Indy Car and Rally drivers.

The Spaniard will next be back on his factory 2012 M1 for the Official MotoGP Test at Sepang, which is scheduled for January 31st to February 2nd.

Alvaro Bautista makes Honda debut on RC212V with Team San Carlo Gresini

The Spaniard signed with San Carlo Honda Gresini for 2012 on Wednesday, and was immediately out on track with his new team at the Valencia Test.

Shortly after agreeing a deal for 2012 with Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, Álvaro Bautista took to the Valencia circuit on board the Honda RC212V for the first time today (Wednesday).

It was the first session of a winter testing programme that will continue at Sepang from January 31st to February 2nd, when the Spaniard will switch to the 1000cc Honda RC213V – the Japanese factory's new prototype for the new season.

Bautista did 55 laps today with a best time of 1’33.814 as he gained confidence with the Honda and tested two new Bridgestone 2012 tyre options. Not too much should be read into this test but the early signs are positive. The team now takes a much-needed break to recover the necessary spirit and energy to tackle its next challenge.

Motogp Valencia first corner crash

Last race of the Motogp season at Valencia started with a dramatic accident ending the 2011 MotoGP season early.

Heading down to turn one saw Alvaro Bautista and Andrea Dovizioso come together. Andrea was lucky to stay on his Repsol Honda but Alvaro fell and slide into Valention Rossi, Nicky Hayden and Randy de Puniet.

All rider involved escaped with no injuries which will allow them to start testing the new 1000cc machines on Tuesday.

Stoner pipped Spies at the line for a half-a-wheel margin of victory.

Hayden, Rossi and De Puniet were all taken out on the first lap when Bautista lost the front and crashed, taking Rossi out and starting a chain reaction crash which saw Hayden later in the garage icing his right wrist. Rossi walked away from the crash.

Stoner won the first and last ever 800cc Motogp race era.
